ICU Care Box Refill – TUTH ICU

2017.07.06

Every year patients needlessly lose their lives in an ICU in Nepal just because they cannot afford to buy essential drugs and medical equipment required for their treatment. To compound matters, in an emergency situation, health care workers will order the required equipment and medications, but then the patient’s family must leave the ICU to retrieve, pay for, and return with the supplies to ICU which costs precious minutes in a life and death situation.

To improve timely and equitable access to lifesaving treatments, NCCDF is pioneering the NCCDF ICU Care Box. This box is a collection of essential medical equipment and supplies located within the ICU for rapid access in an emergency situation. Patients will be asked to replenish the supplies after the emergency has passed. For those unable to afford replenishment, the supplies will be a donation for their care.

The foundation has been supporting the ICU at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital with the care boxes for almost four years now and during this time more than 300 patients have directly benefited. Unfortunately the foundation is calling off the support due to lack of funds to support the care boxes. Special thanks to ‘Friends of NCCDF’ for making the care boxes a reality and supporting the care of poor patients.

ICU Care Box Refill @ Bir Hospital ICU

August 2, 2016. It has been a year since we started initiaiting the ICU Care Boxes at Bir Hospital ICU. During the time, almost 100 patient benefited from the emergency medicine and supplies.

The Care Boxes are carefully designed boxes containing life saving ICU emergency drugs and equipment necessary for treating patients. Care boxes eliminates the time that patient family waste in procuring much needed drugs and equipments in an emergency situation. NCCDF is also focused in improving hand hygiene, so we donate hand sanitizers to promote and practice effective hand hygiene in the ICU.

A brief intro to ICU Care box can be viewed here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzdBcO4zhHI

NCCDF is committed in supporting the care of poor patients in the intensive care. Special thanks to ‘Friends of NCCDF’ for making this possible.
